Research and Development of Circular Polarization Radar Antenna for Remote Sensing Schemes

Professor Dr. Atsushi Fukasawa
Chiba University, and Technical Adviser
Tokyo, Japan

Abstract: Circular polarization antenna will be presented for 10GHz microwave sensor systems. Fluorinated dielectric material have been used conventionally for the high performance antenna at X-band. However it requires complex processes of thermal adhesion for production of a multi- layer stripline antennas. In this study, a compact stripline antenna and its routing wires for feeding have been built using high εr glass-epoxy dielectric substrates. A unit antenna is composed of tri-plate circular disc resonator with linear truncation. Then, an array is composed with 4 unit antennas. The characteristics of the array; axial ratio, directive gain, return loss, impedance, and directivity have been obtained by 3D computer simulation. It will be concluded that fine tuning was needed to define the exact values of dimension of the antennas, and length of routing wires in spite of really small difference of εrs between Teflon and glass-epoxy
